Match Point
I’ve never seen Woody Allen’s movie. Because I presumed that he made kind of boring movies. (not romantic, not family, not comedy, no explosive, only people keep talking and talking - such films are not my favor)
The reason i went to see this one is “Scarlett Johansson“.
According to the lastest “100 Sexiest Women in the World” by FHM magazine reader’s poll, she got No.1, beats out former No.1 Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba and Keira Knightley.
I saw her several times in The Man Who Wasn’t There, Lost in Translation, Ghost World, The Island. None of them effectively use her sexiness. But in Match Point, she looks obscure, profound, silently harsh, and damn sexy.
Woody Allen’s film is not as boring as i expected. The screenplay is sharp and funny, not the way typical comedy is, but rather kind of black comedy. We didn’t laugh at characters’ activity but their destiny.
The man who said “I’d rather be lucky than good” saw deeply into life. People are afraid to face how great a part of life is dependent on luck. It’s scary to think so much is out of one’s control. There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net and for a split second it can either go forward or fall back. With a little luck it goes forward and you win. Or maybe it doesn’t and you lose.
If you’ve just finished the book “Crime and Punishment” by Dostoyevsky, you’ll enjoy this movie about 150% more.
